About this product

Product information, features and application details.

Rausch 33 kHz Rodding Sonde – Standard UK Pipe & Drain Locator is a compact locating transmitter for tracing compatible rods, cameras or pipe routes from above ground.

The Rausch UK 33 kHz Rodding Sonde, formerly supplied as the Dart Rodding Sonde, is a robust, self-contained and waterproof transmitter designed for tracing underground pipes, drains and ducts and pinpointing the position of blockages, collapses and other underground features.

Operating at 32.768kHz, this is the standard Rausch UK sonde frequency for general-purpose underground locating applications. The sonde can be attached to Cobra Rods, Flex Rods, Drain Rods and other suitable push-rod systems using its M10 threaded connection.

Once inserted into the pipe or duct, the sonde emits a continuous signal which can be detected from above ground using a compatible cable locator or receiver operating at 33 kHz. This allows the operator to trace the route of buried pipework and accurately identify the position of blockages or other areas requiring investigation before excavation or repair work begins.

Why Choose the 33 kHz Sonde?

33 kHz is the standard UK sonde frequency and provides a good all-round signal for most underground pipe and duct locating applications.

  • Standard UK 33 kHz locating frequency
  • Ideal for general-purpose underground pipe and duct location
  • Suitable for tracing non-metallic drains, sewers, pipes and ducts
  • Helps pinpoint underground blockages and collapses
  • Compatible with suitable 33 kHz cable locators and receivers
  • Can be used with Cobra Rods, Flex Rods and Drain Rods
  • Up to7m (23ft) locating depth

How It Works

Attach the sonde to a suitable Cobra Rod, Flex Rod, Drain Rod or other compatible push rod and feed it through the pipe or duct. The sonde continuously transmits a 32.768kHz signal which can be detected from above ground using a compatible locating receiver.

By following the signal, the operator can establish the route of the buried pipe and pinpoint the position of the sonde. This is particularly useful for identifying blockages, collapses, buried connections and other areas requiring investigation before excavation.

Choosing the Correct Sonde Frequency

Pipe construction and surrounding ground conditions can affect the strength and clarity of a sonde signal. For this reason, Rausch UK offers sondes in 33 kHz, 8kHz and 512 Hz frequencies for different locating conditions.

  • 33 kHz – General purpose:The standard UK sonde frequency and the recommended starting point for most underground pipe and duct locating applications.
  • 8kHz – Difficult ground conditions:An alternative where the 33 kHz signal is difficult to detect, including situations where surrounding soil, shingle or concrete affects signal performance.
  • 512 Hz – Cast iron pipework:Particularly suited to locating through cast iron pipe where a lower-frequency signal can provide a clearer location.

Where conditions are unknown or frequently change, having access to more than one sonde frequency can provide greater flexibility on site.

Available Accessories

  • 3-46-SA– Sonde Adapter, M5 / M10
  • 3-911-SA– Sonde Adapter, M10 / M12
  • 3-9-FM10EF– Female M10 End Fitting for 9mm Cobra Rods
  • 3-BR-SA– Universal Drain Rod Sonde Adapter, Uni / M10
  • 3-BT-SA– BT Duct Rod Sonde Adapter

Rausch UK Rodding Sonde Range

  • 370-100 – 33 kHz Rodding Sonde:Orange – standard UK frequency for general-purpose underground location.
  • 370-101 – 8kHz Rodding Sonde:Green – for applications where locating with 33 kHz is difficult.
  • 370-102 – 512 Hz Rodding Sonde:Red – particularly suited to locating in cast iron pipes.

Always use the sonde in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and with locating equipment capable of receiving the selected transmission frequency.
